It is not a secret that PDF is the most used file format for storing and sharing documents. That's because it has a series of advantages over traditional formats, like DOC, TXT and RTF. PDF files cannot be modified using conventional applications, they can be protected with a password for preventing opening them by unauthorized users, they can contain various media elements and can be opened using a small application called Adobe Reader.

But the problem is how to create PDF files. If you don't want to use Adobe Acrobat, which is the official application for creating PDF files, then you can try the PrimoPDF application instead. PrimoPDF has more advantages than Adobe Acrobat, being smaller in size, taking up less system resources and being easier to master. After installing the application, the user will notice a shortcut on the desktop, whose name includes "Drop Files Here to Convert!". Users can simply drop text files over the program's shortcut and PrimoPDF will quickly convert them into PDF and save them in their original location.

By double clicking on the program's shortcut, the user will be presented with a configuration window, which allows him to configure the PDF quality settings. This can be done by selecting one of the available presets. These presets include quality settings for different purposes, for example, creating e-books or just for displaying PDF files on the computer monitor. The user can also add his own quality settings.

What's more, one can add various information to a PDF file, like the name of the author, version, comments and so on. PDFs can even be protected with a password, to prevent opening them by unauthorized users.

By accessing the options section, one can select the PDF version that should be used. What's more, he can also configure PrimoPDF to create a log file after each conversion, to be able to spot any errors that might appear during conversion. PDFs can also be created using the print feature of any application, because PrimoPDF adds a virtual PDF printer into Windows.

Pros

It allows you to create PDFs from virtually any application that supports printing. Besides that, different quality presets can be used and also custom presets can be created. Furthermore, PDFs can be protected with a password.

Cons

Some users may find the application a bit too simple. Using PrimoPDF, you can quickly create PDF files from virtually any application that supports the printing feature.
